Our classes, taught by highly educated teaching artists, challenge students to push their creative limits, think differently, explore their own capabilities and come away from each class with a heightened sense of self and confidence.

Our Session E (6 week) class registration is now open! Our new location for classes will be at New Life Church in Prince Frederick so that we can be more centrally located to all three Southern Maryland counties!

PRICING:

  • Multiple-Class discounts are still in effect. If you sign up for 2 or 3 classes, there will be an automatic 10% discount applied. If you sign up for 4 or more classes there will be a 25% discount applied. 
  • 3-Week payment plan. Payment for 6 week classes are split into 3-week intervals, with the first 3-Week payment due upon enrollment.
  • Reduced cost for several classes accepting children under 8 years of age.

ACTING

Continue that acting journey orv start NOW if you haven’t yet! Students will learn script analysis, the importance of scene work, cold readings and monologues. Hilarious and fast-on-your-feet improv games will help to build stronger “stage presence”.

This course will offer an intensive scene study and character exploration journey. We will cover script analysis with a screen partner AND ensemble. Students will hone their improv skills for performance and everyday life situations.
 

BACKSTAGE SUPERSTARS-STAGE MANAGEMENT

Students will learn basic problem solving in chaos simulated scenarios, learn how to run productions from behind the scenes, establish rehearsal schedules, be able to run a stage crew and delegate jobs accordingly in this fun, fast paced class.
 

MUSIC THEATRE TECHNIQUE AND CHOREOGRAPHY

Build a foundation and understand the structure necessary to learn and master movements and control related to dancing in a musical theatre environment. students will be educated on terminology, proper balance and placement of the hands and feet. 

Ready, Set, Act

An introduction to the stage

Description: 
This course is a great way for ages 8-10 to dip their toes into the world of performing on stage! Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland instructors will offer a fun and interactive introduction to acting through pantomime, character play, and acting games. No prior experience is required, and this course can be taken multiple times as content is updated for each session. Cost $360 for a 12-week class. Minimum class size of 3, maximum of 12.

Objectives:
Students will:

  • Become familiar with scripts and stage directions
  • Use their bodies and voices to create characters
  • Work with others in an ensemble cast

The Show Goes On

Intermediate Acting

Description: 
This intermediate course for ages 11-13 is an exciting way to dig deeper into the art of character development for actors. Instructors from Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland
will facilitate scene work, monologues, cold readings, and script analysis as well as improvisational games to build upon their skills. No prior experience is required, and this course can be taken multiple times as content is updated for each session. Cost $480 for a 12- week class. Minimum class size of 2, maximum of 12.

  • Gain a better understanding of how to use their instrument on the stage

This advanced acting course for ages 14-18 takes things up a notch! Instructors from Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland will lead students through intensive scene study and character exploration through script analysis, scene work, improvisational games, and monologues. Students interested in pursuing roles in school or community theatre productions will especially find this course helpful. No prior experience is required, and this course can be taken multiple times for students who are eager to further hone their craft. Cost $480 for a 12-week class. Minimum class size of 2, maximum of 12.

  • Become comfortable working with scene partners and ensembles
  • Hone their improvisational skills for performance and everyday life
  • Boost their confidence in performing and auditioning

Show-Stopping Choreography and Technique

Gotta dance? Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland instructors will help aspiring performers aged 8-18 build a foundation and understand the structure necessary to learn the master movements and control related to dancing in a musical theatre environment. Students will be educated on terminology, proper balance and placement of hands and feet during specific moves and stances. Cost $480 for a 12-week class. Minimum class size of 2, maximum of 20.

While we believe that establishing a solid technique and foundation is essential to becoming a strong and adept singer, we also place a high importance on helping students to gain confidence in themselves and their performance ability so that they can go on to experience a lifetime of joy-filled music making. Our goal is to not only teach the basics of healthy singing and accomplished musicianship, but to always find a way to help struggling singers regardless of background or skill level, to impart an understanding of how to communicate emotion through song to touch the heart and soul of the listener, and, most importantly, to always foster a love of singing.

These one-on-one private voice lessons will be tailored to the students’ needs, skill level and interests and will include the following topics:

  • Technique & Vocal Health
  • Extending the Vocal Range
  • Repertoire
  • Intonation/Pitch
  • Phrasing
  • Rhythm
  • Song Interpretation
  • Stage Presence
  • Audition Prep
  • Ear Training
  • Basic Music Theory

There will be a performance opportunity at the conclusion of this 6-week session.

Does your child want to be part of something extraordinary? Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland’s audition-based Encore Elite Show Choir brings the excitement and fun that come with being part of an elite troupe of performers by honing vocal and dance abilities and providing opportunities for community performances. Cost $480 for a 12-week class. Minimum
class size of 8, maximum of 20.

Objectives
Students will:

  • Learn sharp, energetic choreographed dances
  • Work on harmonizing to create powerful choral vocals
  • Participate in performances in the community

Show Choir Curtain Callers


Thursdays 6:15-7:30 pm

Description 
Is your 8–18-year-old all about song and dance? Children’s Theatre of Southern Maryland’s Curtain Callers Show Choir is a combination of sharp, energetic choreographed dancing synchronized with powerful choral vocals. Your shining stars and Glee fans won’t want to miss out on this chance to explore the world of show choir. Cost $300 for a 12-week class. Minimum class size of 8, maximum of 20.

Objectives:
Students will:

  • Gain an introduction to the craft of show choir
  • Learn beginning choreography and voice skills
  • Create a full ensemble performance

Teen Tap

Tuesday 6:30 pm to 7:30
6 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18
Learn the fundamentals of tap by working through center floor exercise, across the floor and combos. Work on rhythm and coordination.

Teen Ballet

Tuesday 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18

This is Not a typical classical ballet class. This is more modern and fun than you probably realize. No tights and leotards here… our class is about the structure of dance and building a functional foundation that will help students in all disciplines of dance. The music is more relatable. Educational and important, as ballet helps build a strong dance foundation, it can be used in many different ways and leads to better overall dance understanding. Fun and energetic… no elevator music here.

Teen Hip Hop

Tuesday 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18

Learning isolations, flow and freestyle and applying them to the music. Students will be encouraged to try various hip-hop styles and find their groove

Broadway Rhythm and Tap

Hop, shuffle step… into this exciting Broadway-style rhythm and tap class! Learn the FUNdementals of tap by working through center floor exercise, across the floor and combos! Work on rhythm and coordination. Minimum enrollment of 2 students for this class.

Teen Jazz

Tuesday 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18
This class teaches a high energy form of dance that comes from European and African dance origins. Lots of movement, and lots of fun with up-tempo music from all genres. Jazz is the most used dance style in musical theater performances and is typically the premier audition style for higher education dance institutions. In this class you will enjoy learning choreography and technique which includes leaps, turns and kicks.

Broadway Bound

The purpose of this course is to provide beginning level students musical theatre training in dance, voice, and acting. This class will teach the history of musical theater through voice and dance medleys starting with the Golden Age to Broadway today.

Musical Theatre - Technique

Shake It Up - Intro to Shakespeare

In an abridged setting, students will study Shakespeare scenes and learn to establish scenery using only their bodies and 4 chairs! This a fun introduction to the world of Shakespeare that allows young actors to interpret the dialogue how ever they please; everything from a monologue, to 8-person scenes.
