Our classes, taught by highly educated teaching artists, challenge students to push their creative limits, think differently, explore their own capabilities and come away from each class with a heightened sense of self and confidence.

 

6 week classes are $360 and 12 week classes are $720.  if you sign up for 2 or 3 classes, there will be an automatic 10% discount applied. If you sign up for 4 or more classes there will be a 25% discount applied.

Acting 1 - Intro to Acting

Wednesdays 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 9 to 11

This course will offer an introduction to stage directions, Character play, acting games, working with an ensemble/cast, and early pantomime work.

Acting 2 - Intermediate Acting

Wednesday 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 12 to 14

An introduction to script analysis, scene work, cold readings and monologues. Improvisation games and skills. Better understanding your instrument/body for the stage.

Acting 3 - Advanced Acting

Thursday 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 15 to 18

This is an intensive scene study and character exploration course. We will cover script analysis with a scene partner AND an ensemble. Students will hone their improvisation skills for performance and everyday life situations. Much of this material will be an introduction to college and/or community theatre audition prep.

Acting Up 1

Tuesday 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 4 to 6

Come clown around! Students will learn basic acting techniques; how to project and exaggerate body movements to better prepare them for their future on stage. Through acting games, they will learn
different ways too express emotions using storylines and role play…a fun way to burn some energy in a positive, fun and safe environment.

Acting Up 2

Tuesday 5:45 pm to 6:45 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 7 to 8

Auditioning Fundamentals

Thursday 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 12 to 18
Preparing for school, CTSMD or community theatre productions. Students will learn how to “slate” what to have in their repertoire, how to handle nerves/energy, how to cut a song to an appropriate length, cold read from sides, what monologue to choose, and what to sing. Putting auditioning woes at ease!

Beginning Ballet

Tuesday 5:30 pm to 6:30
6 Weeks / Ages 8 to 12
This is Not a typical classical ballet class. This is more modern and fun than you probably realize. No tights and leotards here… our class is about the structure of dance and building a functional foundation that will help students in all disciplines of dance. The music is more relatable, Educational and important, as ballet helps build strong dance foundations that can be used in many different ways and leads to better overall dance understanding. Fun and energetic… no elevator music here.

Beginning Jazz

Tuesday 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 8 to 12

Learning techniques that make for a strong, smart dancer. Mastering fun, big movements to match the rhythm of the music, and make that music come to life! Explore a wide array of styles, including Fosse, commercial and contemporary jazz

Beginning Hip Hop

Tuesday 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 8 to 12

Learning isolations, flow and freestyle and applying them to the music. Students will be encouraged to try various hip hop styles and find their groove.

Beginning Tap

Tuesday 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 8 to 12

Learn the fundamentals of tap by working through center floor exercise, across the floor and combos. Work on rhythm and coordinations!

Broadway Bound

Thursday 6:15 to 7:15
12 Weeks / Ages 8 to 10
The purpose of this course is to provide beginning level students musical theatre training in dance, voice, and acting. This class will teach the history of musical theater through voice and dance medleys starting with the Golden Age to Broadway today.

Creative Movement

Wednesday 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 3 to 4

Discovering movement by using self space vs. general space, pathways and directions, tempo, levels, shapes, focus, energy and relationship through story and dance.

Ensemble Singing

Thursday 6:30 to 7:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 10 to 18

This is a course intended to develop the skill, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for ensemble singing, including blending, harmony, matching pitch, intonation, rhythm, etc.

Music Theory 1

Friday 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
12 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the basic foundations of written music and its construction. Basic ear training will be integrated into the curriculum.

Shake It Up - Intro to Shakespeare

Tuesday 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 12 to 18
In an abridged setting, students will study Shakespeare scenes and learn to establish scenery using only their bodies and 4 chairs! This a fun introduction to the world of Shakespeare that allows young actors to interpret the dialogue how ever they please; everything from a monologue, to 8-person scenes.

Solo Performer 1 - Creating a Solo

Wednesday 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 8 to 11
This “master class” -style group vocal class is for students who have a basic understanding and relative confidence in vocal production, who want to refine their skills in solo singing. Students will establish basic vocal and performance technique while applying it to a solo song of their choice while receiving weekly feedback from instructor and classmates. There is no required material for this course and the only prerequisite is that you are comfortable singing alone in front of people.

Stars 2B

Teen Jazz

Tuesday 4:30 pm to 5:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18
This class teaches a high energy form of dance that comes from European and African dance origins. Lots of movement, and lots of fun with up-tempo music from all genres. Jazz is the most used dance style in musical theater performances and is typically the premier audition style for higher education dance institutions. In this class you will enjoy learning choreography and technique which includes leaps, turns and kicks.

Teen Tap

Tuesday 6:30 pm to 7:30
6 Weeks / Ages 13 to 18

Triple Threat Production Team

Wednesday 6:30 pm to 7:45 pm
12 Weeks / Ages 11 to 18
This is an intermediate musical theatre production based class that will include Broadway style dancing, singing, and acting from popular Broadway musicals and formulated in a large production number. We will be working on Fall/Winter production number and will have local performance opportunities at charity events, theme parks, and holiday events during the DMV area and represent CTSMD.

Voice Fundamentals

Thursday 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm
6 Weeks / Ages 7 to 18
Students will learn the fundamentals of singing, such as posture, breathing, intonation, tone production, diction, phrasing and ear training. We will work our way through these techniques while applying them to songs we will learn together.
